i have friends within the organization that say there is a very dangerous mood prevalent throughout the vikings clubhouse -- a sense of satisfaction; a sense of "yeah nobody thought we had a chanse -- and we showed em...."; a sense of complacency. this is NOT good.

furthermore, the vikings are in a COMPLETE QUANDRY on how/what to prepare for with the eagles offense. tice and cottrell are borderline moronic to begin with, but now that the eagle offense hasn't played for a month, coupled with the fact that there is NO tapes available of the eagle offense without owens, poses HUGE problems for this already troubled defensive corps.

the only way for this defense to stop the eagles on sunday will be by accident -- could it happen -- yes, but it's not what i would call a sound investment.

another thing, reid and company pride themselves on their defense -- and they have all the tapes they need to prepare for what the vikes are going to throw at them. tice will have a hard time topping the game plan vs an anemic pack def, and will probably cause morew problems trying to change things for the eagles then he would've just throwing the exact game plan for a second consecutive week.

ande lastly, the weather could be a huge factor -- it was balmy in green bay last sunday -- it could ber near zero in philly this sunday -- thus, taking the air out of the vikes passing game.

at first thought, the vikes +9 1/2 looked to good to be true -- easy victory, but with more investigation the original thought starts to ring a bit true.

more to come this week....

Hello hansen bros...

My thoughts exactly with regard to the vikes having no real study material on the birds without TO in the line-up while in a meaningful game situation this season, also it must be remembered that the vikes are an 8-8 team that backed into the playoffs and are now playing on the road for the third straight week.

Past history shows that NFC top seeds have gone 16-0 SU and 13-3 ATS the past 16 years but unbelievably bettors are grabbing the points with the vikes and have caused the line to drop to Philly -8.5....I personally jumped all over the Eagles laying less than 9 points!

take care and good luck

8 1/2 is a good number, might even drop a tad more. i agree, not only is this team 8-8 they are HORRIBLE defensively -- and we all know defense wins championships.

they are also HORRIBLE on the road like 3-23 L26!!!! not to ention a few other factors -- they beat a bad packer team and i think the packers were bad mreso than the vikes were good -- don't think you see a winged moss get opem like that in philly on sunday (let alone a non-winged moss), and if the vikes get down they will fold like a tent -- making the 8 1/2 -- 9 very attainable.

great insight hansen bros. its the infamous oddmaker mind games at work here. perception vs reality. i feel its in the vikings mind set as well. so they beat a team on sunday they know better than any other.the packers arent quite the same team that went to back-2-back superbowls. the question then is whether the difference between the philly offense & minny defense is greater than the difference between the vikes O and the eagles D. the answer is probably yes by at least 10 points.the vikes didnt get blown off the field sept 20 at the linc but they stunk inside the red zone and were unable to score enough points against arguably the best defense in the league. and even tho its likely all hugs n kisses and poofed out fros in the land of 10,000 lakes this week, and just as the vikes fans will begin to think they can win a road playoff game against the nfc east champions itll all be over on sundaywhen the team of 10,000 fakes shows its true colors once again and underachieves but what will it matter to them? they whacked green bay and now thier fat dumb and happy.i will lay the points with philly. they do have 3 pro bowlers in that secondary dont they?~RG

Hey roxygurl..

Hows life in rainy California? Too bad about Brees and company I was leery of the inflated line and had the Bolts in a three team moneyline parlay which of course lost with the missed FG in overtime, I thought the Bolts played a pretty good game tho'.

I can't believe all of the hub bub with regard to the media trying to turn the public against Marty because of the missed FG, yes the kicker was a rookie but it wasn't like he just signed on or like he just joined the team for goodness sakes!

Bolt kicker Nate Kaeting had made 8 of 9 FG's from that range during the regular season and his longest made FG was from 53 yards out, the kid wasn't a bad kicker and simply booted one a little wide right.

Isn't it funny how the media pundits love to make goats out of people just as a means to create a story and thus have something to write about?

I am quite sure the same talking heads would be saying the same things if the Bolts had tried to move the ball closer in than the 22 yard line by going for another pass only to have it intercepted or trying another running play only to fumble the ball, I can hear 'em now "Why didn't Marty kick the FG afterall he was in range"?

Now...I gotta ask you about your above comment that Philly has "Arguably the best defense in the league"....you're kidding right?

The Eagles defense is not bad but let's be for real here, Philly's weakness is against the run and thus the reason they have an overall NFL ranking of #10 and it must be remembered that Philly resides in the weak NFC conference, meaning that their numbers are actually inflated because they played the majority of their games against NFC teams.

Pittsburgh far and away has the best defense in the NFL and also the best defense of any of the remaining playoff teams as the Steelers are the #1 ranked defensive team in the NFL, of the remaining playoff teams the Jets rank 7th in the league and New England ranks 9th in the league.

I will say this tho' of the remaining playoff teams ONLY the Eagles and Patriots have both a top 10 offense and a top 10 defense and neither of these two teams appear to be getting any "Love" this week!

take care and don't use too much lip gloss!

Deb would like to point out that since Trotter moved to middle linebacker that defensive ranking has climbed steadily....

deb,my bad for giving the eagles D a higher degree of respect than maybe i should have. im an AFC girl and didnt fully get into the defenses of the NFC as i should have. as for the chargers this whole city is in nuclear meltdown. this team was destined for another 4-12 year and everyone knew that. if youd told anyone here we may go 5-11 we would have been giddy. so to go 12-4 and win the division youd believe there would be parades every day for the team. instead its a dark mournfull time here. remember the numbness the country had in the days after 9/11? its alot like that. not as profound but very noticeable.as for kaeding this kids a wreck. he was in an interview yesterday and just broke down.,sobbing as he walked away. everyone wants marty fired because afterall he is what he is. he gets his team to the playoffs then goes away from what got him there.he was uptight in that game and so followed the team. now the debate is whether or not brees gets a long term deal or not. the guys comeback player of the year and a probowler and team MVP and most inspirational player as voted by the team. yet they have to do something because we have philip rivers with a fat wallet waiting for his shot. id hate to be aj smith. now marty wants an extension for he and his coaches and theres a rift between aj smith and marty. the last time this happened bobby ross was fired and bobby beathard stayed and to this day we all know the wrong bobby left at the time.and dean spanos let it happen. he wanted to fire smith recently and bring in john shaw but didnt. so this city and its team are in disarray.interesting isnt it deb? talk at ya later.gl.~RG

love the metaphors -- you write well. couple things, the line was very surprising to me for sound reasons -- number one -- the whole country watched the vikes dismantle the pack (actually pack dismantled the pack) in an embarrassing fashion, and the vikes played the eagles to the wire earlier in the season at the linc w/TO!! in fact, if the moron tice would've thrown his little red hankie the to td would've been overturned and the vikes actually would've won!!!

so why 9 1/2 ?????? the line is s'pose to be a perception not a reality -- thus getting money on both sides -- or is it??? to me this line is the contrary -- and to squares it simply heaven. my locals are getting calls from relatives, priests, grandmothers -- people who have never presumed to wager before let alone actually wager -- all on the VIKES!!! one dime, five dimes, twenty bucks, fifty bucks!!! there is something greatly amiss here:icon_conf

once again, let's revisit the facts -- the last three years green bay has opened the playoff season at lambeau -- killed by the falcons, won in ot over the hapless seaskanks, and an ugly loss to the queens this year??? a record i would leave off of my resume!!

the eagles, on the other hand the perennial nfc champ LOSERS. and they "didn't even deserve" to be there last year -- how many times have you hears about 4th and 26, or favre's ill-advised pass???? and now they are w/out TO, anbd haven't played for a month!!!!

perception or reality???? the usc trojans had over a month off before the orange bowl, and played w/out williams.

First I'm a Green Bay fan, but:

I think the Vikings may have won their "Superbowl" by beating the Packers. I've always said that if the Vikings played everyone the way they play the Packers they would have been in the Superbowl the last 4 years.

IMHO

Luck:cool:

IMO, Philly is a lot like Redskins but w/ better offense. We saw what happened to Vikes @ Washington. I don't like laying so many points, but all signs are pointing to Philly domination in this game.

Well then I would suggest putting your girlfriend on a lease and stop allowing her to socialize with your neighbors dog!

I don't know you and don't know if your source is absolutely reliable or if you're yanking our chains, but with respect, I have some questions:

"i have friends within the organization.."

Who? Not names, but area of the business / job function. Front office? Locker room? Training staff? Once you share this info, I think the info will be interpreted by all of us in a much truer and harsher light.

"the vikings are in a COMPLETE QUANDRY on how/what to prepare for with the eagles offense."

How do you know this? Is your source at practices and meetings, or is this your opinion, or a rehash of media info?

I'm not asking this because I'm on the other side of this game, and it's not a flame, just sincere skepticism. I think that someone aught to question any unsubstantiated 'inside' information...
